With growth averaging 8 percent over the last few years, the economy of India is booming. Experts estimate that an advanced and reliable infrastructure could even boost growth by two more percentage points. Because expansion of the infrastructure has been unable to keep pace with the speed of development, however, action is urgently needed to improve it. The Indian government is planning to invest some €450 billion in its domestic infrastructure by 2015 — an enormous sum. A major portion of the scheduled investment will go to the energy sector.
Our subsidiary Evonik Energy Services India was established in India in 2001. It has around 170 employees who offer a wide variety of services for power plant operators. These range from conventional engineering for the construction of new plants and modernization through full operation of plants for third parties, together with the development and implementation of process optimization software to raise efficiency. India is also driving modernization and efficiency improvements at existing coal-fired power plants. Here, Evonik Energy Services is involved in various projects that highlight its claim to be one of the leading R&M (Renovation and Modernization) consultants.
