STEAG encotec (West Africa) Ltd is based in Port Harcourt, River State since 2005. Our mission and focus is to train and develop local operations and maintenance capabilities for thermal power generation and to provide comprehensive O&M services with high local content and world-class performance.

For 140 million people, only half out of some 6,000 MW installed power generation capacity is available. For example, at Afam I-V site out of 20 gas turbines only 2 ones available on half load while the other 18 are completely crashed or awaiting repairs.

We also provide construction related engineering, field supervision, project consultancy and studies for thermal power projects. Also we keep resources for electrification projects in the Port Harcourt area.

At present the company has over 90 employees, including 15 expatriates from EES head office, German power plants and EES overseas subsidiaries. The largest projects include the O&M of the 630 MW Afam VI Combined Cycle Power Plant of Shell and construction supervision at NIPP power plant sites Calabar, Gbrain, Egbema and Omoku – in total 12 gas turbines.

Evonik is active part of the Nigerian-German Energy Partnership formalised between the two countries by a MoU in the Presidency at Abuja August 19, 2008. The objective of this partnership is to improve the situation in Nigerian power sector and giving Germany access to Nigerian gas resources.

Evonik and its local company are the first address for developers, investors and lenders in power projects in Nigeria, Ghana and other West African countries. Since 2005 we are both a Nigerian-German company and have become one of the strong bridges for know-how-transfer, capacity building, business ethics and better understanding between the two countries. Evonik will make a substantial contribution to improving the power infrastructure and its performance in the Niger Delta, all Nigeria and West Africa.
